Des d'una capseta...

Ins kino

On my first weekend here, as i found a cinema where they show some movies in original version, i went to see Ocean's 13 (given the choice...). There were a couple of things that i considered remarkable...
...being the movie in o.v., i thought that i might try to read a bit of the subtitles in german, see if my brain started remembering a bit more of the language. Well, no success, but it was not the fault of my braincells. The subtitles were a line in german and right underneath it (same color, same font) a line in french!! This way there's no way to read a thing!!!
...and half way through the film, screen to black, lights on and "pauze" on the screen... whatever...

Detallets

Imagine, you get to a new country, and the first thing you want to do is plug your laptop and cross your fingers so that it can see some signal so that you can connect to the outside world and tell everyone that you managed to get there, that are alive and also get the smiles and energy you need from your friends and family everytime you start a new life. But well, just then you realise that your socket does not fit... and you panic and wonder why the hecks noone had told you about that... ;)
Luckily i managed to find a temporary solution till i bought a couple of things like the one in the picture, and adapter from swiss plug to "normal" one ;)

PS: a few more photos here :)

under a red light...

Where i lived till not so long ago, it was not exactly the police what you could find under a red light... cultural differences??? ;)

Art|Basel

(sorry...)

This week is ArtBasel time here. It is a huge contemporary art exhibition, mainly a collection of art galleries from all over the world (a lot of swiss and from Berlin, NY and Japan) showing some of their pieces (and looking for business!). Tons of paintings (Picasso, Miró, Liechenstein… and even Tàpies!), some photography and sculpture, and also some things I wouldn’t know how to qualify... I was not able to go through all of them, I must admit it.
Then I crossed to the building next to it to see the part entitled ArtUnlimited. Less conventional things, let’s put it that way. Small exhibitions, short films, strange things (what’s the point of a broken caravan surrounded by broken pc screens???)… My favourite? A set of photos of a given moment taken from different angles, distances, photo style.
I could not take my camera in… anyway, as this thing today is a bit stupid and does not allow me to upload photos, i've put in Flickr a couple of photos of some ArtUnlimited contributions outside together with some of the city of Basel (guys, your wishes are orders…). So just click
here to see them (sorry...). Enjoy them!

Update 23:05
Just like Ajax...

To make it short... ouch! Exciting end of the league, just like the Eredivisie... unfortunately Barça didn't do like PSV but like Ajax...

On the road

Last weekend i was in Eindhoven to pick up my stuff (good lord, how many things can get out of such a tiny spacebox!). It was weird to say bye to a place that’s been my home for a year and 8 months.

Monday morning (thanks Michal! & Marco too) i put all my belongings into a car, and started driving towards Switzerland. A bit more than 600 km, most of them on German highways. Thank god i found a good radio station to keep me company!
:)
A couple of impression: half Europe is suffering from roadwork… or i managed to pick all the right ones! And i promise i had never seen soooo many trucks in my whole life. Almost the complete right lane in the highway!
And a funny thing… no one asked for my passport when i entered Switzerland (weird, eh?) but i did have to pay the toll to be able to drive on swiss motorways… And the last adventure: find my way home once i got out of the highway at the other side of Basel. That was a long day!
;)

Pitjor que raro... (Worse than strange)

Languages... a wonderful chaos... at work i mainly use english, but also a bit of french and spanish, but i also hear italian and german there. Outside, i use mostly french, though occasionally english and spanish have been more useful. German??? Mmmm, not yet! It is still, somehow, somewhere buried at the back of my mind, but when i try to recall it, i end up speaking in dutch (now, yep... clever me, eh? :p). But anyway, the day i decided to call dutch "strange" (raro in catalan), i never imagined i would ever encounter something like swiss-german. If dutch is strange, this is even not human!! You don't believe me?? Have a look at the photo... xD!

provisional

Some people asked me how's the flat i'm living in. Well, above a couple of photos. It's a very nice flat, a bit far away from the centre, though. Main drawback? Well, it's just a temporary arrangement, so soon i have to start looking for a new thing. Looking for a flat in a city i don't know... just my very favourite thing!

Appart from that, i manage to survive doing bureaucracy and trying to get used to the new job, get an idea of what i will have to do... though missing my friends.

Basel

Ja us aniré explicant.

After spending a few days at the EMRS in Strasbourg, i finally got to Basel. My best memories of the conferences will, of course, be of the dinners and the beers in the evenings (the guys "torturing" me speaking dutch, laughing at the irish, a girl from Paris (well, that's probably Arjan's best memory, jejejeje), ordering kidneys, and many more). The hardest part, of course, was saying bye and taking a train knowing that i was leaving behind one of the best experiences of my life.
Basel welcomed me with a typical dutch rain (it couldn't be otherwise!). My provisional place is a very nice flat and the little i've seen from the city centre looks cute. I'll keep you up to date! And tomorrow my first day at work. Let's see how a "real" job looks like... ;)
